Internet forums will never cease to amaze. At any given moment you can find out how to season and cook a two-pound ham from a knowledgeable chef yet read utter nonsense from the forum monkeys regarding where exactly underneath your NSX you should place your floor jack. Posts like this are not uncommon on the NSX forums (about jacks, not meat), so it’s really no surprise that someone created a thread asking if he could or couldn’t jack his car up from a certain spot. The spot in question doesn’t have a big arrow on it and it doesn’t have its own stamp next to it that says “jack here.” It also doesn’t have its own page in the NSX service manual. All of this is enough to make the NSX weenies promptly tell the guy that he cannot and should not jack his car up there. But most anybody who knows his way around a car knows there’s almost always at least a few other spots to stick a jack under than where Honda tells you to. And if you need to create a thread on a forum to verify this, well, maybe you should think about putting that jack away for good. Sorry, but if you can’t tell that raising an NSX by its engine cradle/subframe, which sits right up against the rear frame rail, is okay, then make the world a safer place for yourself and stop crawling underneath your car. 

Unlike most other Hondas that can be raised by their front crossmembers and rear structural members, the NSX’s designated jack points are directly under its doors. That means that NSXs are raised laterally, not longitudinally—a strange procedure if you’ve never done it before. It also takes a bit more time than it does to jack up your Civic, which is why some NSX owners look to the rear subframe when only one corner needs to be raised—like when changing the oil filter. Ah, but if only the NSX weenies would approve.

Actually, uh, just kidding. This is sort of an inside joke, but I had to do it. On the heels of the success of Joey Lee’s The Chronicles blog, some other would-be blogger basically cut and pasted the entire paragraph above and pasted it to his own site. I figured I’d do the same. Anyways, updates are coming. In the meantime, visit The Chronicles–the link’s in my blogroll. Like Behind the Mag, it’s one of the few automotive blogs that uses original content and takes silly things like plagiarism and copyright infringement seriously. Go figure.

I’m posting this for no other reason than to show that even Toyota minivan owners do silly things that don’t make sense for the sake of looking “cool.” Just a couple of random shots from the Tokyo Auto Salon earlier this year.

Last Sunday marked my first SpoCom event. I have absolutely no idea what an “urban dance competition” or a lingerie show has to do with cool-looking, lowered Hondas, but I went anyways. The experience was interesting, to say the least. Each car was supposedly pre-screened and only “the best” were allowed in. Well, if that’s the case, then I do have to ask: Who the hell was doing the screening? Besides a couple of whack builds that slipped through the cracks, there was empty floor space galore. But that’s okay too. There were still plenty of good cars there and seeing everybody is always a good thing. Of course, my favorite car there would have to be the Cricket Wireless time attack NSX. What else would you expect? Oh, and if anybody knows who won the dance competition, do tell.

I’m not really getting this ‘02+/’01- front bumper hodgepodge conversion for the ‘01 and older pop-up-headlight NSX. It really is hard to improve upon what Honda spent years developing. I say, either leave the pop-ups with the old bumper or convert to the ‘02+ fixed headlight version. Pick one.

Never been a big fan of the RSX. I am now.

Gary from Project Car magazine’s CRX turned out great. Ballots were handed out to vote for either Gary’s CRX or Super Street’s EF hatchback. I voted for Gary’s wheels—the car got my vote by default.

Anybody who doesn’t think the NSX can do daily driver duties simply doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Since I’m in between extra cars at the moment, I’ve been commuting to work and back – and everywhere else – for the last month in the NSX. And the car is every bit as reliable as any other Honda, albeit not quite as practical. Trunk space is limited to little more than my camera bag. There’s only one extra seat. And the car is low. Really, really low. Today I couldn’t eat lunch at my favorite taco place because I couldn’t get into the parking lot. Daily-driver-capable? Yeah. Practical? Not so much.

I had hoped to have seen a decent amount of NSXs at this year’s Eibach meet but, unfortunately, there was no such luck. Besides mine, Will Law’s Spa Pearl Yellow NA2 was there along with Downforce’s. And that was it. Will, of course, was representing at the Koyo booth and Peter and the guys from Downforce brought out their NSX to promote their headlight restoration kit, which, by the way, is great stuff. I’ve already restored my NSX’s, TSX’s, and an old Civic’s headlights to like-new condition. But that’s beside the point. NSX owners: If you’re reading this, make a point of making it out to Eibach next year. You won’t regret it.

As other show and meet promoters try their damnedest to blur the lines between nightclubs and car shows, they keep missing the mark – the cars. Eibach and its annual Honda meet doesn’t seem to have this problem though. The event is held during the day…outside…sans the club-like atmosphere, dim lights, and silly dance contests. And that’s the way we like it. After all, we are all there for the cars. This year’s meet was no disappointment – although the NSX count was on the low side (there were three, including mine) – the caliber and quantity of cars on display failed to burst anyone’s bubbles. Walking around Eibach’s facilities was like seeing the pages of Honda Tuning come to life. Here’s a small sample of past, present, and future HT-featured cars that were on display.

I love this ARC titanium shift knob that I’ve got but it’s almost impossible to use this thing on hot days. I drove the NSX to the office last week on one of those 95-degree days and made the mistake of parking outside for a couple of hours. I had a heck of a time getting home. The thing’s got to be well over 150 degrees once fully baked.

Here it is. This is what I’ve been spending the last seven months working on. The paint’s done and so is the engine, suspension, brakes, wheels and tires. I’ve got some interior modifications I’d like to get to, but the car is drivable, and the interior doesn’t look like it’s in need of anything, really. Downforce did an awesome job painting the car — I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. I took this snapshot this evening after washing the car but plan on shooting several more photos somewhere else soon. Of course, I plan on driving it too.
